People feel the murals add value to the properties and to the pedestrian experience downtown. That makes people want to invest by renting a condo, building a new business or a hotel. We’re all about encouraging people to invest in many different ways. When you add these layers of value to the city, it makes people want to invest.

Before the incredible murals were done, it was drab and kind of oppressive. Now you walk by and it feels like a different space. It’s transformative. It made an unattractive and intimidating space into something lively, attractive and where you want to be. You want to look at it. All you have to do is look at the concrete buildings that aren’t painted, to see the difference.

Now when I want to have a girl’s night, I want to go to Worthington Street. The paint parties were incredible with kids and adults and all this diversity and everyone having a great time. The vibe was super energetic and positive and I hope we can recreate that over and over again.

It was good to have local artists involved as well as people from the outside. That’s what made Fresh Paint really powerful, the mix of people involved.

I was really impressed that Fresh Paint brought new people into the conversation about how we can better integrate arts and culture into the economy of the city and what makes a better downtown. When I went to the block party, I looked around and I didn’t know anyone there and that never happens. Several hundred people that I didn’t know! So we’re getting new people to participate in the revitalization of the downtown.
