Why put a mural on your building?

A mural turns a building that no one notices into a landmark that catches people’s eyes. A mural transforms a wall that looks tired or rundown into a beautiful work of art.

When a group of murals are put up in close proximity, they change the vibe of a neighborhood from a place like every other to a destination - a place to go because it is interesting, cool and up-and-coming.

The Fresh Paint murals are a free outdoor museum that draws people to neighborhoods and increases property values.

I get feedback from the city and real estate brokers looking to fill space. People are talking about the murals and that’s great. Public, positive word of mouth is what motivates decisions to invest in the long term. That could be someone’s decision to live downtown when they wouldn’t before, or an investor building market rate apartments where they never would have before.

How it works

A Fresh Paint mural will turn your building into a beloved landmark, and make it part of a city-wide outdoor public art gallery enjoyed and viewed by thousands of people every year. You will also be getting a professionally done mural for free, instead of paying the typical cost of between $20,000 to $80,000.

Before that incredible mural was done on Dwight Street, it was drab and kind of oppressive. Now you walk by it and it feels like a different space. It’s transformative. It made an unattractive and intimidating space into something lively, attractive and where you want to be. You want to look at it. All you have to do is look at the concrete buildings that aren’t painted, to see the difference.

Assessing the Suitability of the Wall: We choose walls that are easily seen by lots of people and that are structurally sound.

Deciding on the Mural Style: We meet with you to look at a range of mural styles so that you can tell us what type of mural style you like. Then we find a muralist that works in that style.

Developing the Mural Design: Unlike privately commissioned murals, the theme and content of a Fresh Paint mural is developed through a collaborative process between the muralist, the community, and the building owner. Building owners get a mural for free, but don’t get to decide what the mural will be about. The building owner chooses the style of the mural and can offer input into the theme of the mural. The building owner approves the proposed design before the mural is painted.

If you are interested in a mural where you have complete control over the content of the mural, or for a building that is outside Fresh Paint’s geographic focus, visit us here.

Britt did a great job. Everything I asked her, she’d get back to me and she did everything she said she would. That doesn’t always happen.  She was direct, professional, respectful, timely, a good listener, and she did exactly what she said she would. I can’t beat that. I never take that for granted.

One thing that was helpful was making this an easy process. Fresh Paint was easy to deal with and approachable. It was as simple as it could be.

The murals collectively speak to the city and are a meaningful representation of our community.  I remember each building as it was formally and what it is now. I know that the muralists studied the history of the buildings, and all of the murals are significant. The artists took their time and poured their hearts and souls into
those murals.
